Ken Belden
1912 - 2002
My appreciation
of my father, given at his funeral in Knebworth, England, in December 2002.
And his obituary
in The Independent.
Sermon
Gave
this sermon on Hope in July '02. "Now
I see the world almost in reverse: it’s not that there are a few good things
happening in a world that’s getting steadily worse. Now I understand that
there are many terrible things happening in a world that is getting steadily
better." In this context, I am talking about this as a spiritual, not a
political, issue.
Columns It
seems 9/11 can reinforce your beliefs about God, whether those are that
God's finger nudged the plane aside from your desk, that a plane-nudging
God is impossible, or that God is impossible. (More)

For those finding this page after reading my piece on humanist
rituals in The New Humanist (the British print magazine) November 2005 or
hearing my debate on the topic with philosopher
AC Grayling on BBC Radio Four, on Nov 27 2005, you may be interested in a sermon
I gave recently that expands on the idea of Agnostic
Religion.
Here's a great
article by Rabbi Michael Lerner.
I had the cover article in the British magazine The New
Humanist, here
(Nov/Dec 2004) arguing that however much they may disdain religion, secular
humanists must work with religious progressives to expand freedom and democracy.
Visit OpenDemocracy.net
for which I wrote 42 columns between Nov 02 and March 05. Find them here.
Plus my predictions for 2006 Straws
of liberalism in the evangelical wind is here.

Major Personal
News:
We are moving back to the Bay Area. I start as Managing Editor of Tikkun
magazine on March 15 2007. Rowan graduates from high school in June and is
committed to working this summer with Wayfinder.
Debi will stay here to see him through and continuing her job at the Mohonk
Preserve, and will do the big move to the Bay Area in August. I will visit a
few times. It looks like Rowan will be going to college in Los Angeles - not
certain which one yet.
Contact me to find
out more.
(I have bought an Apple computer and have no idea how to edit
this page on it, so it may be a while before I make any changes here - March 10
2007).
