The World Remakers’ Child

A Memoir

Even as a little child, I knew my parents and our community were the hope of the world.

At 17, I gave my life to God and dedicated myself to remaking the world.

At 20, I was becoming desperate: if the world depended on us, it was doomed.

So I began a lifelong journey to join a movement that had more of an answer. I experienced cosmic love and became an agnostic. My friend Andrew sums up the story: “Feeding the world, politics, feminism, social movements, class, anti-imperialism, sex and divorce, therapy, carpentry and woodwork. Late-learning to cry, to show emotion, even to come to terms with what he’s feeling.”

Burned out at 32, I went solo for decades.

In my 50s, I began to trust movements again.

In my 70s, against the odds, I am acquainting myself with hope and joy again. I’m excited to see how people integrate personal healing and transformation with strategic efforts to change social structures.
